Prayers from the Past - Martin Luther

Martin Luther (1483 – 1546) was a German monk and theologian whose radical ideas sparked the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Frustrated by perceived corruption in the Catholic Church, particularly the selling of indulgences, he famously nailed his "Ninety-five Theses" to a church door in 1517. Luther championed salvation through faith alone, not good works, and the supreme authority of the Bible over church tradition. His defiance against the Pope and Emperor fundamentally reshaped Christianity, leading to new denominations and profoundly impacting European history.

Luther’s Morning Prayer

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.

I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You.  For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.  Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me.  Amen.
