Josiah Queen & Brandon Lake Declare a Joy That Can’t Be Taken

Rising worship artist Josiah Queen has teamed up with the ever-impactful Brandon Lake for a powerful new single, “Can’t Steal My Joy.” Rooted in acoustic-driven, Americana-tinged tones, the song is a bold reminder that true joy – the kind found only in Jesus – stands unshaken by life’s storms.

While both Queen and Lake are no strangers to weaving in subtle country influences, this track leans all the way in, delivering a rich, rootsy backdrop that perfectly complements its lyrical strength. Lake himself calls it “a total joy bomb” – and it’s easy to see why.

“This song came from the idea that our joy isn’t dependent on the situations we face,” shares Queen. “The Bible says, ‘The joy of the Lord is our strength’ – and we often forget how powerful that really is. The enemy has tried my whole life to take my joy, but he can’t steal what he never gave me.”

“Can’t Steal My Joy” reimagines the timeless refrain of “I’ve Got the Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy” and breathes new life into it for today’s worshippers – from churches to car radios across Aotearoa. It’s a triumphant, hands-raised anthem that celebrates the kind of joy that doesn’t depend on our feelings or circumstances – the joy that comes from a life surrendered to Christ.

Written alongside noted songwriters Hank Bentley and Jacob Sooter, the song is Queen’s first offering of 2025, launching ahead of his My Promised Land Tour, which sees him joined by fellow worship outfit Strings & Heart. Later this year, he’ll also hit the road with Lake and Phil Wickham for the return of the much-loved Summer Worship Nights tour.

Meanwhile, Brandon Lake continues to stretch the boundaries of Christian collaboration. He recently released a new version of his stirring track “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with country artist Jelly Roll, and continues to explore bold new territory with Sons of Sunday, a worship collective featuring the likes of Steven Furtick, Chandler Moore, and Leeland Mooring.
