Desperate - Jamie MacDonald.

Jamie’s parents divorced at a young age, and her stepfather imposed a rule that there would be no singing in the house—something that deeply impacted her passion for music. Despite this, God planted a seed in her heart during a church camp experience at age 12, where she encountered the love of Christ in a way she never had before.

However, as she returned to her troubled home environment, Jamie drifted away from that faith and fell into a lifestyle of partying, drugs, and instability. By the age of 16, she had dropped out of high school and was forced to navigate life on her own, often with nowhere to go. It was in her early 20s that she had a wake-up call. Seeing friends overdose, go to jail, and even lose their lives pushed her to remember the promises God had spoken to her years before.

From that moment on, her life took a dramatic turn. She began reading her Bible, secretly attending church, and growing in her faith. God opened doors for her to join a worship team, embark on mission work, and ultimately step into a music career.

Regarding the song Desperate Jamie says

“There’s been so many moments where I’ve felt desperate. I spent a few years looking after my dad who was sick. I was carrying a lot of grief and a lot of heartache from that season. I just hope people know that they can come boldly to God’s throne and ask for what they need. A lot of times, we pray fervently for other people. But when it comes to what we need for ourselves, sometimes we shy away from really passionately asking.

Even the song says, ‘I’m not asking, I’m begging.”  I just feel like a lot of people get to that low place and maybe they don’t know how much God loves them. They don’t feel like they can ask for big things from God. It’s been cool to see God come through in some of my most desperate prayers and really show up and say, okay, I’m listening.”
