The Northumbria Community
The Northumbria Community is basically a bunch of Christians from different churches who don't live in a monastery but follow a simple, spread-out lifestyle inspired by the old Celtic monks of Holy Island (Lindisfarne). Their philosophy boils down to three simple ideas: being open to God (Availability), being honest about yourself (Vulnerability), and keeping life uncomplicated (Simplicity).
They pray using a book that mixes cool, poetic old Celtic prayers with modern thoughts. This prayer style is very popular because it focuses on finding God everywhere—especially in nature—and encourages people to use prayers for all the little, ordinary parts of their day, like waking up or traveling, keeping their faith very real and welcoming.
Let Our Memory Shelter No Hate
Lord,
let our memory
provide no shelter
for grievance against each other.
Lord,
let our heart
provide no harbour
for hatred of each other.
Lord,
let our tongue
be no accomplice
in the judgement of each other.
–Prayer from Celtic Daily Prayer from the Northumbria Community
