Prayers from the Past - John Wesley

John Wesley was an 18th-century English Anglican cleric who founded the Methodist movement. Though he never intended to leave the Church of England, his tireless itinerate preaching brought the Gospel to the working poor who were largely neglected by the established church.

He was a phenomenal organizer, establishing societies, classes, and a network of lay preachers. Wesley's theology, emphasizing a personal, heartfelt conversion and the pursuit of holiness, transformed countless lives. He left a legacy of social activism and a worldwide denomination that continues to impact millions.

"I am no longer my own, but yours.

Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will; Put me to doing, put me to suffering;

Let me be employed for you, or laid aside for you, Exalted for you, or brought low for you;

Let me be full, let me be empty;

Let me have all things, let me have nothing; I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things To your pleasure and disposal.

And now, glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are mine and I am yours.

So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth,

Let it be ratified in heaven."

Amen
